Located in the beautiful North West of England, close to both the Lake District National Park and the Solway Coast, my amateur radio station reflects a lifelong interest in radio communications and technology.
As mentioned in the introduction to this website, my interest in radio began as a schoolboy shortwave listener, listening to distant stations from around the world. This early fascination eventually led me to obtain my Amateur Radio Licence in 1989, and I have enjoyed exploring all aspects of the hobby ever since.
I am a member of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) and currently serve as Club Secretary of the Workington & District Amateur Radio Club, where I enjoy helping to promote amateur radio and supporting both new and experienced operators.
Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to develop a well-equipped station that allows me to experiment with many different aspects of this fascinating hobby. Using a variety of transceivers, antennas and computer-based systems, I am able to operate across a wide range of frequencies and modes, from 1.8 MHz through to 2.4 GHz.
My interests include HF DXing, VHF and UHF operation, amateur radio satellites, digital modes, remote station operation, antenna experimentation and keeping up with the latest developments in amateur radio technology. The flexibility of my station enables me to enjoy everything from local contacts across Cumbria and beyond, to communicating with stations around the globe and via satellites in space.
Amateur radio is a hobby that continues to evolve, and even after many years on the air I still find new challenges, new technologies and new friendships to discover.
